Golf in Zell am See, Austria

Zell am See is not only a "winter" resort. The region offers an enormous variety of recreation, including lake steamer rides and water sports, swimming in the lake or the modern pool complex in Zell. You can hike in the mountains above, accessible by gondola or cable car, play tennis or golf. For the case we recommend you to choose one of the following golf courses or, why not, try them all:

1. Golf Club Zell am See - Karpun (2 courses: 6262 metres, Par 72; 6003 metres, Par 73)
The golf course "Kitzsteinhorn" and its marginally more difficult neighbour, the "Schmittenhohe" offer 36 entertaining and challenging holes on the valley floor. Being Austria's largest alpine golf centre, the club is proud with its two championship courses. Both of them make good profit of water and bunkers and the Clubhouse patio offers stunning views of the snow - capped Kitzsteinhorn Glacier.

2. Golf Club Urslautal - Saalfelden (5967 metres, Par 71)
Probably the most beautiful golf course in Zell am See, Urslautal is situated on a natural plateau under the gaze of the impressive Steinernes Meer Mountains. Hay barns dot the landscape whilst several testing holes present themselves on yet another immaculately kept course before you arrive at the relaxed clubhouse and its mountainous backstop.
The golf starts with a couple of short par 4 holes, before opening up over gentle, undulating terrain.

3. Golf Club Mitterstill - Mitterstill (5596 metres, Par 70)
This is not the largest of courses, but a good golfing challenge nonetheless. If you come from Kitzbuhel, the drive over Pass Thurn (1500 metres) will reward you with fantastic views of the Hohe Tauern National Park before descending to the valley floor and the Golf Club Mitterstill. Rustic hay barns, plenty of water and an island green to close combine to make this a very good, tactical test of golf.

4. Golf Club Brandlhof - Saalfelden (6089 metres; Par 72)
This is a true test of accurate golf with the imposing clubhouse and hotel providing hospitality and breathtaking views at the end of your round. The gently cascading Saalbach river meanders through the valley and has been well incorporated into this Donald Haradine designed course with six river crossings, tempting your ball to a water grave. Both sides of the flat valley floor are flanked by huge cliff faces, creating a true alpine feel to the course.
All you need to do to enjoy the challenging places is to book a room in a hotel and start your game.
