The village has a position west from Innsbruck and is easily accessible by road or rail. In fact, the easiest way to reach the vacation resort is by flying to Innsbruck and taking the ski bus for the rest of the way. The nearest railway station (Langen am Arlberg) is only 17 km away from the villages in Arlberg, then by bus or taxi, it will take you approx. 20 minutes to reach St. Anton. For those who want to explore some other ski venues in the area, a good idea is to go to Lech and Zurs, only a bus ride away. Winter activities
St. Anton am Arlberg is set at the average altitude in the region (1.304 m above sea level) and the neighbouring villages are: Lech am Arlberg, situated at 1450 m altitude and the highest one - Zürs am Arlberg (1720 m altitude). Being host to the 2001 World Alpine Championships, St Anton am Arlberg is legendary about skiing and snowboarding, attracting winter sports fans not only from Austria but from all over the world. The vast skiing area of St Anton is connected with the other slopes in the Arlberg region (280km in total) and features 50 perfectly groomed slopes, ranging from challenging steep pistes to deep-snow runs. The most tenacious skiers will enjoy the longest ski run in the resort (10km), beginners and less experienced skiers will feel better if stick to the easier pistes at lower altitudes, experts can take advantage of the runs on the Galzig and Valluga peaks. Adherents of extreme off-piste skiing will enjoy 160 km of off-piste, ungroomed routes. The most appropriate period for skiing at St Anton am Arlberg is from the late November to April, afterwards visitors can move on to the pistes of St. Christoph (linked to St. Anton) and hit the slopes till May. The runs are conveniently connected by 82 lifts and the statistics says they are divided between ability levels in the ratio 22 percent advanced slopes, 42 per cent intermediate and 36 per cent beginner runs. What is more, in the resort, there are over 37km of cross-country trails for the fans of cross-country skiing, and snowboarders are privileged as well. There are interesting ski runs in the valley and numerous self-catering chalets situated slightly further along the valley on the way to St Christoph. Not surprisingly, St. Anton is widely regarded as the best ski area in Austria. Higher up the mountain the terrain gets more demanding and culminates with the Valluga 2 lift, which requires a qualified guide to accompany you while getting on it. Once you reach the steep area of Valluga, the fearless skiers will be awarded with marvelous panorama of the surrounding awesome peaks and they can run down right into the ski resort of Zurs am Arlberg.
