In the picturesque Wildschonau Valley, there are many resorts but Oberau boasts to be the one of the prettiest and most famous in the area. It is small but cosy Austrian village, belonging geographically to the Kitzbuehel Alps. Set at 830m altitude, it is easily reachable from Innsbruck and together with Niederau they represent the most attractive and visited Tyrollean villages in the region, distant respectively 7 and 10km from Woergl. If the tourists desire to attend also the rest of the villages in Wildschonau, they can take the bus
and move further up the valley to see the other charming villages of Thierbach, Muehltal and Auffach. Taking a ski pass, you can access the nearly 700km of pistes according to your preferences because the pass covers the area of Niederau, Oberau and Auffach.
Undoubtedly, Oberau is the paradise for beginners and intermediates. The non-experts can take advantage of the easy category slopes, as well as the ski school with good training and plenty of English speaking instructors. At disposal of the intermediates are the long red pistes of the ski area with plenty of scope for easy cruising. In fact, there are not so many runs for the advanced skiers but they can find a challenge in the long blacks, including the International Ski Federation Championship run and some through-the-trees off pistes. A total of 27 ski lifts, 2 gondolas and 38 km of cross-country tracks add positive nuances to the picture of the ski resort.
The non-skiers will not be bored for sure in Oberau. There are a few winter pursuits for them such as ice skating, sleigh rides and a very active tobogganing scene. Some other activities available in the resort area are hiking in the beautiful surroundings, bowling in the village, tennis, etc. An excursion to the easily accessible cities of Salzburg and Innsbruck is also possible due to the close distance. Moreover, a truly delight is guaranteed to those who adore visiting historical sites.
The atmosphere in the mountain village of Oberau is very pleasant – you will have the opportunity to relax in attractive, traditional and quiet ambience.
