Since the 2004 / 2005 season Austrian Tyrol offers tourists new and enlarged skiing opportunities. At that time the connected skiing area of Kaltenbach and Hochfügen opened for skiing fans in new dimension and greater conditions. The new interconnected Ski-Optimal Hochfügen-Hochzillertal has now become the focal point of winter tourism and sports in the Mid-Zillertal region. The new Zillertal skiing arena invites you to its main resort points – Fugen, Hochfugen and Kaltenbach. Fugen, a typically Tyrolean resort, is situated at the entrance of the Zillertaler valley amongst beautiful snowy landscapes and relaxing mountain atmosphere. It is the lowest of the three, but offers direct access to Spieljoch (650 – 2 100 m) and Hochfügen (1 500 – 2 100 m) skiing areas. The best choice for reaching them is to use the panoramic lift and combine the delight of unforgettable views with the high-peaks skiing experience of the Zillertal mountain. Both skiing regions offer 64 km of pistes, perfectly suitable for families. The Fugen resort includes 19 lifts and 40km of cross-country skiing, mainly equipped for intermediates. There is also an excellent ski school, offering the best facilities for beginners and children. Expert skiers will also enjoy, and if looking for bigger challenge they can profit of the vast off-piste terrain. Fugen has a specialised boarding park and halfpipe to offer to snowboard fans. As to après ski, Fugen is perfectly equipped. Its cosy cafes and bars will give you the comfort and relax you need. There are excellent restaurants preparing traditional and international food as well as many clubs to guarantee you entertaining evenings and nights.

Hochfugen resort in the Zillertal valley is great for skiers. As it names shows - “hoch” is translated “high” from German, it is at the perfect altitude (1 500 – 2 100 m) to assure sufficient snow coverage and a long-lasting white season for winter sports lovers. Perfect skiing conditions and astonishing beauty of the mountain scenery, that is just a resume of the Hochfugen many charms. The resort includes a system of 11 lifts leading you to its perfectly prepared 27 slopes. The skiing runs are suitable for all ages and abilities, but are best for intermediates. The variety of the terrain assures opportunities for all kind of skiing activities and winter sports – cross-country skiing, tobogganing or snowboarding – the resort offers a specialized boarding park. You can also enjoy guided walks in the depths of the mountain heart. Lovely cafes and bars will shelter you after the skiing day. Local restaurants are a paradise for cuisine lovers for they are specialized in Austrian gastronomic traditions. Especially worth visiting is the Alexander Hochfügen Restaurant, which has won many culinary awards. And as a finishing touch to the relaxing comfort of your holiday you can add a visit to the spa village of Hart nearby.

The winter skiing resort of Kaltenbach offers direct access to 69 km of downhill runs to skiing fans. The skiing area offers great opportunities to all – beginners, intermediates and experts. The longest run is 12 km and a modern lift system will bring you up to the astonishing altitude of 2 300 meters above sea level.
