Innsbruck is the capital of Tirol and one of the most famous cultural economic and tourist centres in western Austria. The city is situated in the scenic Inn valley, between majestic mountains – Patscherkofel, Nordkette and Serles, all of them erecting to more than 2,000 metres of altitude. This worldwide renowned winter resort, being twice a host of the Winter Olympic Games ( in 1964 and 1976) gives a range of attractive opportunities for skiing and other sport activities. Literally translated, the name means “the bridge over the Inn“.

Winter activities
This is an ideal place for skiing in winter, since the city is well connected with the neighboring resorts of Seefeld, Tulfes, Igls, Axamer Lizum and Stubai Valley, offering a large ski arena for the winter sport enthusiasts. Perfect transportation between the various ski pistes is provided by the lift and cable car system. Beginners, intermediates and experts can enjoy skiing and snowboarding throughout the winter season, and even in summer as the glaciers at the Stubai Valley are an attractive terrain. Besides hosting twice the Olympic Winter Games, Innsbruck was a place to organise the 1984 and 1988 Winter Paralympics, as well as the Winter Universiade together with Seefeld in 2005.

Summer activities
Summer is also beautiful in Innsbruck, with so many ways of exploring the region, such as hiking, climbing, rafting, skydiving and many others. There is also an upcoming surprise, namely the new funicular to Hungerburg and Nordpark is to be opened at the end of 2007 for great experience and unforgettable views of the mountain area.
