Sights and activities near Ischgl
The lovely Paznaun Valley embraces the fabulous alpine resort of Ischgl. From a small farmer village, Ischgl has been transformed today into a lively and entertaining resort of huge popularity. It has both - glorious entertainment and serene mountain atmosphere, mixed up with perfect skiing conditions to suit all tourists' desires. In fact, the area is commonly called the Mecca of skiing and snowboarding for its varied terrain of 210 km of runs and vast off-piste opportunities.
For those who long for a calmer flavor, one to recommend is a visit to the nearby village of Galtür. Just 20 minutes up in the valley from Ischgl, Galtür offers the cosy charm of a smaller and less invaded mountain resort. Despite of its smaller skiing area (only 40 km of skiable slopes) variety of slopes is available especially for intermediates and experts. But Galtür is mainly known for its great cross-country skiing opportunities and the tempting offers for lovely ski-tours. Thanks to its higher altitude - Galtür is the highest resort spot in the Silvretta-Paznaun region, it assures solid snow cover and long snow season. Besides the excellent and cosy restaurants dispersed on the slopes, Galtür also has a historical center and a lovely late-baroque church to be explored.
Both Ischgl and Galtür are part of the fabulous Silvretta skiing Arena located on the border between Austria and Switzerland. 200 km of skiable slopes in Silvretta Arena assure great variety of runs and solid snow cover, thanks to the resorts' high altitude. Here Ischgl has direct connection - skiing and railway, with the Samnaun duty free zone in Switzerland. A trip to Samnaun is a recommended adventure - splendid landscapes, lovely mountain trails and, in the end, you could enjoy some shopping down at the duty-free Swiss zone. A great site to visit in the Silvretta Arena is the resort of Idalp. The high alpine village - 2 311 m of altitude, offers crystal views and great skiing conditions. It has the right touch of serenity and comfort within the magnitude of the high mountains.
Carving fans are catered for too. Ischgl offers a specialized carving route to be enjoyed with the Idjoch chair lift.
A lot of small villages and resorts could be visited with the organized excursion starting from Ischgl. A charming place in the mountain lap is the small village of Kappl. Only 10 minutes from Ischgl, Kappl assures a fresh breath of serenity. It has, though, excellent skiing areas with slopes that suit all levels of skiers. Relaxing apres ski scene with nice cafes and bars to shelter you for a warming drink and chat with friends, together with unforgettable scenery of fascinating nature beauty in the village surroundings.
