The town is located at the eastern shore of Lake Wolfgang, called Abersee. It has a long Medieval history, as it served as a centre for pilgrims and carters. More recently, it has been known for several decades as a holiday resort due to its flat lake shore and beautiful beaches. It has modern facilities and is abundant in various summer and winter sport possibilities. The whole area, called the Salzkammergut, offers an impressive infrastructure, provides cable cars, mountain railways as well as boat trips,
cultural events, and it remains a nature reserve at the same time. Remember to get a Salzkammergut Experience Discount Card, which will let you explore the region without the necessity of overpaying.
Summer activities
Lake Wolfgang ensures an opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of nautical sports. These include swimming, windsurfing, sailing, tubing, water-skiing, paragliding and fishing. The lake’s pure water makes it the equivalent of a natural swimming pool. You can also soar into the sky with a parachute pulled by a speedboat. Moreover, sailing or windsurfing courses are offered, and diving is a great option for those more adventurous. Of course, walking and hiking are popular pastimes as there are numerous routes and paths with varying degrees of difficulty. You can choose a strenuous hike up the mountainside, or a leisurely stroll along the shore.
Winter activities
Recreational options in the wintertime include Nordic walks, skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing. The facilities and terrain are excellent. You can also go to Postalm, about 12 kilometres away from Strobl, which is an excellent skiing area with 20 kilometres of pistes. Snowboarders and all beginners will surely enjoy it. Good conditions are there guaranteed from beginnig of December to early April.

Other attractions iclude the Nature Zoological Garden in Strobl and Blue Dom which is called the world of water miracles. In addition, as the Wolfgangsee has for centuries inspired many artists, it maintains its cultural and artistic character. There are summer music festivals, like “Shake the Lake” featuring Bougie and Blues, but also the heritage of Mozart is especially honoured. Participating in the social vivid life of the region will also make you familiar with the local folklore, cultivated by the inhabitants.
