Skiing in Kitzbuhel, Austria

skiing Known as the most popular Tirol ski area, Kitzbuehel is not simply starting the ski season on one day - the resort authorities organize a whole series of events, celebrating the re-opening of ski-runs, between 8th and 11th of December 2005. The resort offers you well groomed runs with total length of 148 km, 40 km only for cross-country trails. There are many express chairlifts, gondolas, free practice lifts. Snow is to big extent guaranteed by the altitude and location of the place. Kitzbuehel is a member of the Classic Mountain Resort network. In this resort traditions and modernity combine very well and rather inconspicuously. This year there are some innovations: the former Ehrenbachhohe T-bar is replaced with a state-of-the-art chairlift featuring child safety devices. In the Resterhohe region, a large snowmaking system is under construction to cover an even larger surface of snow. Skiers will find wider trails and a more generous layout thanks to the removal of the former T-bar track. Perfect conditions are well suited to beginners and skiing novices at one of the best spots on the Hahnenkamm; also for families, children and ski schools. Skiers will benefit from even more advantages of the new Sonnenrastbahn: it will efficiently take them back to the Pengelstein/Jufen/Steinbergkogel area. As the summit terminal is on equal level with the Gondola of Fleckalm. There are many investments into the most popular Tyrolean ski resort, so improvements have been constantly made. The good advice is free: why not try cross-country skiing for a change? You will discover a new sense of inspiration, a world filled with recreation. Over 40 kilometres of constantly groomed and signposted trails in the network of Kitzbuehel, Reith and Aurach offer a stunning visual experience of nature that brings joy all senses and soul. The track which begins at Maurachfeld and close to the Hahnenkammbahn includes really challenging terrain in the direction of Malern and Aurach. Not far from Hotel Bruggerhof is the so-called cross-country arena, from where lovely tracks take you along the way to Kirchberg, Reith and around the Schwarzsee lake. Hochmoor trail at Pass Thurn is also worth trying. The starting point is located at the 'Breitmoos' mountain inn. Here, sports fans are in for a genuine treat: night time cross country skiing on the Hochmoor and Schwarzsee trails, both of which are floodlit until 11 p.m. And that's just the start of it all. Kitzbuehel, Aurach and Reith host seven easy to difficult trails (about 40 km in each case). Each of the trails are suitable for classic cross-country skiing as well as skating. There are some 120 km of prepared tracks in the central area (Kitzbuhel, Kirchberg, Aschau, Reith, St. Johann, Jochberg, Pass Thurn and Mittersill) which can be reached by ski bus. Bichlam is the point from where off-piste and ski tours start. It is a perfectly suitable place for hiking, enjoying the nature and even sunbathing. Snowboarders will feel specially blessed, if they go the Kitzbuehel resort. The best terrains for powder runs (for more experienced people) are Kasereck and Silberstuben. Nature itself has created incredible half-pipes, rollers, jumps and mogul slopes. In case you really want to learn how to get the best out of snowboarding, you can hire a local instructor for a morning, afternoon or the whole day (group sessions also available) - after all, they know the best places to practise, it's their job! There are perfect conditions for curling, Nordic walking and other winter sports.
