Skiing in Mayrhofen, Austria

skiing Mayrhofen is set in the centre of the Zillertal Valley, at an altitude of 630 metres. 3,000-metre-high peaks of Tuxer Alps surround the town. Set in a 370-square-kilometre Alpine nature park, the settlement is an ideal starting point for both taking hikes in the summer and skiing in winter. The valley is connected with the Zillertaler Alps via rail. The area provides more than 200 kilometres of hiking trails, river rafting, paragliding, kayaking and horseback riding. The resort town blends Tyrolean traditions with contemporary interiors, and a large number of snow facilities with Alpine tranquility. Mayrhofen features some 150 kilometers of slopes catering to skiers of all ability levels, as well as 49 lifts. The ski region has been extended from Mayrhofen to the Penkenbahn, as well as from Schwendau to the Horbergbahn. The Ahorn skiing area offers practice slopes for beginners and children. The nearly 6-kilometre-long valley descent, however, is geared towards more experienced skiers. A special feature of the area is the Ahorn Kinderland, a large children’s playground set at 2,000 metres. Snowboarders are also taken care of, as there’s an excellent boarding park. The resort’s primary attraction is the 150er Tux, a lift taking people to the area’s highest point in about five minutes. Once you reach Wangelspitz (2500 m), the vistas that open up are purely majestic. The Après-ski scene includes a selection of bars and clubs, plus a large number of shops and restaurants. Transportation to and from the resort is relatively easy, with several travel hubs located within a two-hour drive from the spot. The nearest international airports to Mayrhofen are Innsbruck IA, which is 65 kilometres away from the spot, Munich (190 km) and Salzburg (170 km). The Jenbach railway station is the closest train junction, located 35 km away. Then, you might want to take a Zillertalbahn train or a bus to Mayrhofen. Trains depart from Jenbach on an hourly basis and travel south to Mayrhofen for about an hour. Mayrhofen is also well-connected to the nearby valleys by an efficient bus network. The town can also be reached via the Inntal autobahn: take the Zillertal exit and continue for about 30 kilometres on the B169.
