Neustift introduction
Neustift represents the second largest municipality in Tirol after Sölden and the third largest at the territory of Austria. It boasts a high reputation as an attractive ski and mountain resort, located among the spectacular scenery in the broad and lush Stubai Valley. Typical for the area are the gorgeous panoramic views of the majestic Pfaffengruppe mountain range, the awesome Mairspitze and Brennerspitze peaks and the rugged Elferspitze and Zwölferspitze limestone peaks. The mountains rise to an approximate altitude between 2000m and above 3000m, which serve to the locals as great sundials.
Among these magnificent surroundings, the picturesque resort of Neustift sits at elevation of 1,000m and features considerable facilities, events and attractions. An impressive ornate church is the landmark at this traditional Tyrolean Alpine village and it is a pleasure to ramble the peaceful streets and be a part of the friendly atmosphere. Attractive to the visitors are the souvenir shops and clothing stores, as well as ecologically varied local products available in the shops and farmers’ market.
Neustift has over 147 km of slopes on the Stubai glacier, the Elfer cable car, the Schlick 2000 and on the Serles. Beginners and intermediates will be most happy to hit the red and blue runs, the longest one of which is 10kms but some black runs are also available for the ski experts. Five gondolas, seven chairlifts and twelve T-bars are among the 24 lifts that service the scenic ski area on the Stubai glacier. The resort offers also 130 kms of cross-country skiing trails and ski touring, so the adherents of winter sports can discover the ideal place to pursue their hobbies. The nicest high-cross-country trials are in Mieders the Serles.
The most popular way to reach Neustift is by taking a scheduled or charter flight to Munich airport, which is about 2 hours away from the Tyrolean village. Another option is to get to Innsbruck by plane or rail and then transfer to Neustift by bus or taxi. The close vicinity to the beautiful provincial capital (about 45 minutes by bus) is a wonderful reason for the non-skiers to take a daytrip. They can travel also with the tram (Stubaitalbahn), taking it from the neighbouring villages Fulpmes and Telfes. For sure you will not be bored in Neustift because various events are organized to amuse the tourists, such as exhibitions, culinary delights (red wine tasting), music events (folk music concerts, dance evenings), etc. There are also special events, among which are the Austrian Sailing Championship coming up in August, opera concerts in July and August, cattle parades in September, a 24-hour hike and many others. The après-ski and nightlife is vibrant, including 32 cafés, 14 pubs, 12 bars (featuring three ice bars), and three discos. Apart from the winter sport activities (skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing and ice-climbing), there are lots of possibilities to try, such as hiking, curling, ice-skating (natural), sleigh riding, indoor tennis and swimming. Available are also squash, bowling, horseback riding, paragliding and caving.
Staying in the Stubai Valley, you can choose among the wide range of accommodation options, including 14,000 guest beds. The selection varies from guesthouses and private lodgings to bed-and-breakfasts and luxury hotels. Families are especially welcome in the friendly resort and number of special vacation packages is available if coming in winter, spring and autumn.
