General info
The full name of the town, Velden am Wörthersee, foreshadows its picturesque location on the largest lake of the region. Getting there is easy, especially via the A2 and 83 Motorways, but you can also fly to Klagenfurt Airport, as low fares are offered directly from Germany. Velden has a long tradition of a bathing resort. Remnants from the town's past are hidden in a Renaissance palace from 1590, but they are also to be found in the so called Baumgartner Villas built in the “Wörthersee architecture” style reflecting identity of the inhabitants. Nowadays the place is above all associated with these three – the Promenade, the Casino, a film setting. Interesting as they all may seem, you should expect much more from this resort.

Summer activities
Velden's attractions and activities are naturally connected with proximity to the lake. Being there, you can choose between all kinds of water sports, including sailing and diving. Fishing has its enthusiasts as well, however hiking and mountain biking seem to be the most popular pastimes. More demanding tourists can try archery, parachuting, paragliding, golf, tennis or squash. Moreover, all the soccer fans shall be delighted by the fact that every year at the end of May the resort gathers 100 amateur teams that fight for Kicker-Velden and Old Star-Velden Cups.

Winter activities
Winter gives you a great opportunity for Nordic skiing, tobogganing and ice skating. You can also play hockey at the Sportplatz Waldarena. Curling is possible in a few places in Velden. Only in the wintertime you can admire such calm dignity of lake. One of the closest winter resorts is Bodensdorf on the Ossiacher Lake in the Gerlitzen Alpe skiing area.

Additional info
Apart from recreation, there are venues for evening entertainment. The famous casino attracts everyone who would like to try their luck in roulette, poker or black jack. But it is also the best spot in town to party, meet with friends and enjoy a good meal. Velden, as the largest and busiest resort on the whole Lake of Wörth, has an atractive cultural offer every season, for instance Summer Opening Festival in May, or International Carthintian Chess Festival in June.
