This situated at 692 metres above the sea-level town can by reached by train, by car via motorways from Salzburg and Vienna, or by plane (the nearest airport is Klagenfurt, 110 kilometres away). It is a picturesque place to spend holidays with your family in nature's lap, especially if you are fond of sports. Surrounded by such mountain peaks as Polinik (2,800 m) and Reißkofel (2,371 m), it will impress you with breath-taking sights as well as with great hiking and skiing opportunities.

Summer activities
Berg in Drautal without hesitation can be called a paradise for hikers, as it offers about 300 kilometres of hiking routes of different difficulty. What's more, you can choose a tour of a different theme such as the Kulturweg, Hochrindlweg or Hubertusweg. This area is also perfect for bike trips; the main route, called Drauradweg, leads from the South-Tirol to Slovenia. A pleasant ride without rapid altitude changes is guaranteed. Of course, if you don't mind exhausting physical effort, you can always try mountain biking. In search for even more adventurous activities, you should go the Emberger Alm, where an unforgettable opportunity of paragliding is given. Classes are offered by the Flightsportclub, whereas the registered pilots can present their skills during the International Competition for Hang Gliding FAI-Class I held in June. However, if you prefer a more down-to-earth pastime, golf would be a good idea. There is a 9-hole golf course in Berg in Drautal. In addition, swimming is a great option for the whole family. The most popular place to do that is the Adventure Bath (Erlebnisschwimmbad) that includes sporting area, children's area, lawn, beach volleyball field, and buffet. You could also try swimming in the lakes – Baggersee is 3,5 kilometres away, Weissensee – 12 kilometres, or Millstätter See in a 40-kilometre distance.

Winter activities
Berg is also a frequently visited destination in winter, as it offers good conditions for various sport disciplines. The Emberger Alm is recommended as a family-skiing area. There is a ski school, child care centre, and you can use 10 kilometres of trails, mostly of an intermediate level. Snowboarding, tobogganing, ice-skating and Alpine curling are also popular in this area along with snowshoe walking.

The town has only about 1,850 inhabitants, which will let you experience their hospitality and home made specialties of the regional cuisine. You can try them in one of the restaurants or cosy guest houses. The motto of the region is: „You come as a guest, you leave as a friend.” Find out, how true it can be. In addition, you may be surprised that this small town is also rich in interesting sites such as a parish with frescoes, another church of St. Athanas, where you can hear classical music concerts, and the Historic Sites Museum. And last, but not least, there is the Nature Planetarium (the Observatory), also located at the Emberger Alm, so you can watch stars from there.
