Zillertalbahn Cable Railroad
© erste ferienregion in Zillertal
This railroad is a remnant of the time when traveling by train was still the ultimate adventure. It is among the most famous steam trains still in operation. The Zillertalbahn AG corporation was established in 1899. The next year construction began, and two years later the railroad was put into operation. The railroad offers a wide variety of interesting activities, including a trip on the cruise boats of the Achensee lake marine, combined tickets for the Achensee lake railway at a discount, hikes along the Ziller trail, uphill rides with cable cars, and many, many more. You can take a ride in the train or even operate it - amateur engine drivers are welcome!

Zillertal Alps Nature Park
The nature park has an elevation difference of 2510 m – from 1000 m at Ginzling to 3 510 m at Hochfeiler. Perilous, narrow ravines open up into wide valleys. Majestic peaks and glaciers tower over the valley. The Zillertal Alps range consists of a number of 3000 m high peaks, such as Olperer at 3476 m and Reichenspitze at 3303 m. The Zillertal Alps are heaven on earth for travelers who wish to relax amid gorgeous natural scenery. Nature lovers, mountain climbers and hikers began to explore the mountains a century and a half ago. The park has an area of 372 km². It was declared a High Alpine Nature Park in 2001. The preserve is situated between Finkenberg, Mayrhofen and Brandberg.

Farrkirche
The first written record of a church in Mayrhofen dates back to the 14th century, but it is probable that there was a small church there even earlier. Following reconstructions the church was consecrated in 1511. It burned down in the late 16th century. An independent curacy was founded in 1674. The church was enlarged in 1740 and inaugurated in 1765. The ceiling paintings, stucco works, pulpit and high altar originate from this period. Mayrhofen became an independent parish in 1858. The church was restored in 1938 and 1939. In the 1960s it was enlarged, as it had become too small for the growing village community. The picture “Rose of Jericho” has adorned the ceiling since 1971. Legend has it that the rose blossoms only during Christmas night.
