Grossglockner High Alpine Road
The end point of this famous alpine road is at the Grossglockner (3,798 m), the highest peak in Austria, and the Pasterze, the biggest glacier. The road rises from 1500 m to 2 369 m ( Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe), and on the way you will see all kinds of vegetation, from cornfields at lower altitudes to permanent ice cover in higher areas. The panoramic route is also developing as a motorcycle pass road. The road is feasible as a family trip – it will be an unforgettable drive for your children. Coach and group trips are also available. There are two info centers and six nature trails on the road.


Bärnstatt Chapel
( 27 km away from Oberau, 24 km away from Niederau )
This Baroque chapel is located in Scheffau. It was built in 1693 and expanded in 1765. The chapel was consecrated to St. Leonard, the patron saint of prisoners and pets, and to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In the past many pilgrims came here from the Inn Valley, and it is believed that the stone stairway at one end of the lake was built for them. Pilgrimage day is on November 6.


Kirchberg

Kirchberg lies at the heart of the magnificent Kitzbuehel Alps. This town offers a wide variety of activities in summer and winter alike. A great option during the summer is hiking. Many well-marked trails start from Kirchberg. One possible route is the Aschau - Oberer Grund – Rakstattalm, which is easy and takes around one and a half hours to cover. The highest point of the route is Rakstattalm at 1302 m above sea level. Winter sports include skiing, snowboarding, carving, tobogganing, horse-drawn sleigh rides and more.


Wildlife Park in Aurach

This resort offers a direct connection to the ski area of Kitzbuehel. The Wildlife Park lies at an elevation of 1100 m and is home to 200 animals, which enjoy the largest open-air enclosure (around 40 hectares) in the Tirol region. Species include lynx, zebus, wild ducks, peacocks, pheasants, ibex, marmots, deer, wild boar, yaks, and more. After strolling around you can take a relaxing break at the cafe-restaurant.


Alpine Flower Garden in Kitzbuhel

The Alpine Flower Garden features species of flora in their natural habitat. It is accessible via the recently-opened cable car up Kitzbüheler Horn. The garden lies at an altitude of 6500 feet. From here a magical view of mountain ridges and towns below will spread before your eyes. The garden offers one of the most exotic collections of alpine flora in the region, enclosed in rocky confines. Species include lichens, gorse, gentian, and heather. The flowers grace the sunny slopes of Kitzbüheler Horn. The garden is open from May to September each year.
