Chapels

Attractions in Ischgl include the Annakapelle and the Maria-Schnee-Kapelle. The former is the oldest chapel in the Paznaun valley, dating back to 1610. The latter is the biggest parish chapel in Ischgl, first built in 1643. Its high altar, embellished with opulent decorations, was created by Michael Lechleitner in 1660. These chapels are a great way to start off a day of sightseeing. Other landmarks in town include several museums, historical sites, and nature reserves.


The Alpinarium, Galtur

The Alpinarium is a meeting spot for old and young, locals and tourists...just everybody in general who is interested in the unique. There is something for everyone here. The town of Galtur is just 10 km away from Ischgl. A notable attraction is the 345-m long, 19-m high wall. Its function is to protect the village from avalanches. This is why it is made of concrete and reinforced with 700 tons of steel. The Alpinarium forms part of the wall on the town side. It has an indoor climbing wall, display areas and facilities, a cafe-bar, sun terrace, resource center, and library. The Alpinarium may have begun as a wall, but later renowned architect Fritz Falch developed it more broadly with respect to content and space.


Innsbruck

Ischgl is 102 km away from the city of Innsbruck. Attractions in Innsbruck include the famous Golden Roof, built by Emperor Maximilian I, the Dom zu St. Jakob, the Bergiselchanze, the tomb of Emperor Maximilian I, and the historical Wilten district. The last was named after Veldidena, an ancient Roman settlement in the area. The Golden Roof is named after the gold-plated tiles embellishing it. The reliefs on the balcony show coats of arms and other symbols of the life of the emperor. The city is also home to many exciting annual festivals and other events. It is a top ski destination and a city with a rich history, founded over eight centuries ago. Innsbruck is also famous for its university, the focal point of its cultural scene.
