Grossglockner High Alpine Road
The end point of this famous alpine road is at the Grossglockner (3,798 m), the highest peak in Austria, and the Pasterze, the biggest glacier. The road rises from 1500 m to 2 369 m ( Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe), and on the way you will see all kinds of vegetation, from cornfields at lower altitudes to permanent ice cover in higher areas. The panoramic route is also developing as a motorcycle pass road. The road is feasible as a family trip – it will be an unforgettable drive for your children. Coach and group trips are also available. There are two info centers and six nature trails on the road.

The lake is 4 km long and 1.5 km wide. It is a year-round holiday destination. In the winter you can go skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and tobogganing. You can also skate on the lake itself – the water freezes completely during winter. In the summer visitors go boating and swimming. The water is clean, but it can be a little cold. Be warned that the area near Schuttdorf at the southern end of the lake is unsuitable for these purposes, as it is filled with water weed.
Eisriesenwelt

The dazzling Eisriesenwelt caves are part of a cave system with a total length of 42 km. The entrance, which is 18 m high and 20 m wide, is visible from far away. Only 1 km of the cave has an ice cover. This part is open to the public. In the summer the temperature inside the cave is 0 degrees C, so you are advised to dress warm. Beautiful ice cascades grace the cave walls. After passing through the entrance hall visitors go on to the vast Posselt Hall. The path passes Posselt Tower, a huge stalagmite at the center of Posselt Hall, and then you reach Posselt Cross after an upward stretch. This is a tiny mark, designating the furthest point reached by explorer Anton Posselt in 1879.

A sensational discovery was made in the Michaelskapelle in Piesendorf – mural paintings of inestimable and indescribable beauty. The inscription reads “Michael”. The murals are framed by decorative templates. These paintings have changed the history of art.
Glacier Kitzsteinhorn

This 3000-m high glacier constitutes the only glacier skiing area around Salzburg. It is a trip to heaven for boarders, free riders, and other enthusiasts. Alpine tours, daily guided tours, round trip hiking routes and hikes to the glacier lake are also possible. There are excellent views of National Park Hohe Tauern from here. The glacier's bright and sunny runs are tempting even in summer. Lifts and cable cars operate all year round. After a long and exciting morning of skiing you can dive into Zeller See.
Mooserboden Reservoir

A notable attraction is the alpine Mooserboden Reservoir, located at an altitude of 2 040 m. It is in Kaprun, 8.5 km away from Zell am See. Guided tours are available. You will acquire first-hand experience of the way hydropower generates electricity. Mooserboden is accessible by bus and funicular. There is an interesting museum between Mooserboden and Drossen Dam, where you will learn the history of the dams. You can sample regional dishes at the mountain restaurant Mooserboden as you relish the panoramic view of the Hohe Tauern. A number of scenic hiking routes start from Mooserboden, such as those to Fuerthermoaralm, the Sedlgrat, and to the majestic Grosses Wiesbachhorn at 3.564 m.
